Equity Bank Uganda, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), has officially launched the 5th edition of the Equity-NARO Golf Open, set to take place from 27–29 November 2025 at the historic Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge.
This year’s tournament comes under the theme “17 Years of Transforming Lives in Uganda,” marking Equity Bank’s 17-year journey of impact, innovation, and growth in the country. The Mary Louise Simkins course, nestled in Uganda’s largest agricultural research complex, has long been a cradle for budding golf talent — serving as a launchpad for many of the nation’s finest players.
During the launch event, Equity Bank Uganda Executive Director Claver Serumaga highlighted the bank’s commitment to both sports development and community empowerment. He described the tournament not merely as a competition, but as a celebration of legacy, community, and the power of nurturing talent. To symbolize this special anniversary, Equity Bank has designated a “17th hole” for the tournament, representing its progress alongside customers, partners, and communities.
The Open is expected to draw a diverse field: seasoned professional golfers, corporate leaders, amateur players, customers, and community partners. A centerpiece of the event will be the fully branded 17th hole, reflecting Equity Bank’s remarkable 17-year milestone.
The enduring partnership between Equity Bank and NARO has been instrumental in the tournament’s success. What began as a stakeholder engagement activity has evolved into one of the region’s most respected golf championships. Notably, the Namulonge course recently hosted other major events, including the Namulonge Ladies Open in May and the K&K Invitational Pro-Am in July — both supported by Equity Bank.
Among the top contenders expected this year is Meron Kyomugisha, winner of the 2022 Namulonge edition and the recent 27th Kinyara Golf Open. The tournament has even attracted professional golfers from Zimbabwe, underlining its growing regional stature.
Sheila Aine, Lady Captain of Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Equity Bank for its consistent support. She emphasized how the Equity-NARO Open provides a platform to highlight the beauty of their course and to advance women’s golf in Uganda.
As preparations intensify ahead of tee-off, organizers promise a well-orchestrated event, enhanced course experience, vibrant community engagement, and memorable celebrations in honor of Equity Bank’s 17-year journey. With all this momentum, the 5th Edition of the Equity-NARO Golf Open is shaping up to be the biggest yet — uniting competition, community, and a powerful testament to partnership.
