Stanbic Bank Uganda has reaffirmed its leadership in digital financial innovation during the Eighth Annual Bankers Conference held in Kampala this July. The event brought together banking professionals, technology experts, and policymakers to discuss the future of remittances and how to improve financial inclusion across Africa.

At the heart of the discussions was Stanbic Bank’s focus on transforming cross-border money transfers through cutting-edge digital platforms. Representing the bank, Salim Kitagenda, Head of Products, shared how Stanbic has been upgrading its systems to allow customers to send and receive money more easily, no matter where they are located.

“One of the key things we did was to enhance our digital platforms for customers who are virtually present to be able to transact,” Kitagenda said during a panel discussion, highlighting how these upgrades make banking more accessible and convenient.

Kitagenda also revealed that Stanbic has partnered with some of the world’s leading money transfer companies. These collaborations are designed to improve the speed, cost, and availability of cross-border remittance services for customers in Uganda and the wider region.

“Our goal is to offer solutions that are fast, affordable, and available to everyone,” he added, noting that the bank is committed to using technology to improve everyday financial experiences.

Stanbic Bank CEO Mumba Kalifungwa echoed this message, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts in unlocking the full value of remittances. “The most powerful message that emerged today was the undeniable need for sustained collaboration. Unlocking the potential of remittances requires a collective approach across sectors,” Kalifungwa noted.

The conference, supported by sponsors including Mastercard and Flexi, featured several interactive sessions and networking opportunities. Participants explored new ideas aimed at improving how people move money across borders, especially in underserved communities.

With its continued investments in digital tools and global partnerships, Stanbic Bank Uganda remains a key player in shaping the future of financial services in the region. As customer needs evolve, the bank is positioning itself to deliver faster, smarter, and more inclusive solutions.
