The 2025 SMACKOBA Dinner & Awards Night drew hundreds of Old Boys of St. Mary’s College Kisubi to Hotel Africana for an evening dedicated to recognition, fellowship, and service. The event, attended by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, celebrated alumni who continue to reflect the school’s values through leadership and community impact.

One of the night’s top honourees was renowned businessman Dr. Charles Mbire, Chairman and local shareholder of MTN Uganda. He received the Alumni Medallion Award, a distinction reserved for individuals whose work and conduct consistently uplift the SMACK community.

His citation praised his “exceptional dedication, distinguished service and unwavering commitment to the ideals and values of St. Mary’s College Kisubi,” signed by SMACKOBA President Ray Nyamatebe Baguma and Secretary General Alex Munobe.

Dr. Mbire joined a list of prominent award recipients, including Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, the titular head of Uganda’s Muslim community, whose influence and service have long resonated nationally. Their recognition underscored the strong presence of SMACK alumni in business, public service, and leadership circles.

The evening also highlighted the far-reaching charitable work of SMACKOBA. Over the years, Old Boys have funded school fees for disadvantaged children, supported patients unable to settle hospital bills, and contributed to community initiatives targeting vulnerable groups. These efforts form a core part of the association’s identity and its commitment to giving back.

With notable alumni such as Fabian Kasi, Joseph Balikuddembe, and other industry leaders in attendance, the event reaffirmed the school’s enduring ethos of discipline, service, and leadership. The celebrations ended with a call for unity and renewed dedication to uplifting communities while keeping the spirit of Kisubi alive.
