Centenary Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to purpose-driven leadership after its top executives attended the launch of “And Then What?  Reflections on Life, Leadership and Meaning Beyond Success” by Francis Kamulegeya at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Led by Managing Director Fabian Kasi and Executive Director Joseph Balikuddembe, the bank’s leadership joined a cross-section of Uganda’s corporate and public sector leaders for a conversation that went beyond success to focus on identity, stewardship and legacy.

Kamulegeya Challenges How Leaders See Themselves

The discussions closely mirror Centenary Bank’s long-standing philosophy of building institutions that outlive individuals. As Kamulegeya shared his reflections, he challenged leaders to rethink how they define themselves in their roles.

“Titles have resulted in us losing our identity. We do the work and we become the thing; the CEO, the MD, the Partner, but we forget who we are,” he said during a keynote conversation with Charles Peter Mayiga.

He added that leadership transitions often become difficult because many fail to prepare for life beyond office. “The clock starts the moment a contract is signed, yet few plan for the day it ends,” Kamulegeya noted.

Centenary Bank’s People‑First Leadership Approach

For Centenary Bank, these insights reinforce the importance of intentional leadership, one that prioritises mentorship, continuity and the development of people. The bank has consistently positioned itself as an institution focused not just on financial performance, but on empowering communities and nurturing future leaders.

By participating in conversations like these, the bank continues to align its leadership approach with values of stewardship and sustainability. The engagement also provided an opportunity for its executives to interact with peers and contribute to discussions shaping the future of leadership in Uganda.

Recognising Kamulegeya’s Leadership Ideas

Centenary Bank congratulated Kamulegeya on the milestone, recognising his contribution to thought leadership and his call for leaders to build beyond themselves.

As the message from “And Then What?” echoed through the evening, one theme stood out clearly: true leadership is not defined by titles held, but by the impact that remains long after they are gone.
