What began as a simple environmental pledge inside a Ugandan tech company is now blossoming into a nationwide movement for climate action.
At Hostalite, sustainability was never just a tagline—it was a promise. For every domain name registered or website hosted on our servers, we committed to planting a tree. It was a bold step for a digital company, but one rooted in a deep understanding: our virtual work must still leave a physical legacy. “We knew that technology alone couldn’t save the planet. So we made a choice: to turn every digital footprint into a green one,” says Dickson Mushabe, CEO of Hostalite and Founder of Greening Africa.
And that’s how Greening Africa was born—an initiative that has grown from a tech-driven sustainability effort into a fully-fledged organization with its own board, structure, and mission to green Uganda’s cities, one forest at a time.
A New Chapter Begins: Tiny Forests for Green Cities
On April 22, 2025, as part of World Earth Day, Greening Africa reached an inspiring milestone: the launch of its first Tiny Forest, in partnership with Housing Finance Bank. With limited space in our cities, Greening Africa is embracing the Tiny Forest model—dense, fast-growing patches of native trees starting from just 4×4 meters. These forests are not only beautiful but powerful: they clean the air, sequester carbon, cool the city, and restore urban biodiversity.
Even more inspiring, Housing Finance Bank announced its commitment to planting 1 million trees by 2027, with Greening Africa as its implementation and support partner.
A Tree in Every Space, A Forest in Every Heart
To mark this partnership and the launch of the campaign, bamboo shoots were given to all HFB staff and the first 20 customers at every branch nationwide, encouraging personal participation in the journey toward a greener future. The event was not just a ceremonial launch—it was a message. A message that lasting change begins with action. That everyone, everywhere, can do something. And that even a tiny forest can carry enormous hope.
“If you have even a small space—at home, at your school, in your community—reach out to us. We will help you plant a forest. Because we believe one tiny forest can change the climate of a city, and the mindset of a nation,” says Mushabe.

Greening Africa is now moving with momentum—driven by partnerships, purpose, and people who care. From a promise made by a web company to a movement embraced by a leading financial institution, the mission remains clear:
