Geogette Ochieng Ndabukiye is a trailblazing Ugandan entrepreneur whose innovative approach to eyewear is reshaping the landscape of eye care in Africa. As the co-founder of Wazi Vision, she has pioneered a model that combines sustainability, affordability, and cultural relevance, ensuring that high-quality eyewear is accessible to all Africans.

From Law to Visionary Entrepreneurship

Geogette’s journey into entrepreneurship began with a realization during her internship at a law firm. She discovered that her true passion lay not in legal practice but in creating impactful change in society. This epiphany led her to pursue a path that would allow her to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

After completing her degree, Geogette volunteered at Veritas College International, an NGO focused on biblical interpretation. Her dedication and passion were recognized, leading to a two-year tenure with the organization. This experience honed her skills in leadership and community engagement, laying the foundation for her future endeavors.

Founding Wazi Vision: A Bold Step Towards Inclusive Eyewear

In 2018, Geogette partnered with Brenda Katwesigye Baganzi to establish Wazi Vision, Uganda’s first indigenous eyewear design and manufacturing company. Their mission was clear: to provide affordable, high-quality eyewear tailored to African facial features. This initiative was born out of a shared frustration with the lack of locally produced, culturally appropriate eyewear options.

Wazi Vision’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of recycled plastic and other eco-friendly materials to craft stylish frames. The company has also introduced innovative solutions like virtual reality-based eye tests, making eye care more accessible, especially in underserved communities.

Impacting Lives Through Accessible Eye Care

Under Geogette’s leadership, Wazi Vision has made significant strides in addressing the visual needs of millions of Africans. The company has partnered with various organizations to distribute eyewear to schools, rural areas, and refugee camps, ensuring that quality eye care reaches those who need it most.

The impact of Wazi Vision extends beyond providing eyewear; it empowers individuals by enhancing their ability to learn, work, and engage with the world around them. By improving access to vision care, Geogette and her team are fostering a more inclusive and productive society.

A Legacy of Innovation and Empowerment

Geogette’s work with Wazi Vision has garnered recognition both locally and internationally. The company’s innovative approach to eyewear manufacturing has set a new standard in the industry, inspiring other entrepreneurs to consider sustainability and cultural relevance in their business models.

Through her entrepreneurial journey, Geogette has demonstrated that with vision, determination, and a commitment to community, it is possible to create solutions that not only meet market needs but also uplift entire communities.
