Centenary Bank has officially launched Gonza Pay, an all-in-one digital wallet designed to transform how Ugandans carry out everyday financial transactions and deepen digital financial inclusion across the country.
The platform was unveiled this morning by stakeholders and partners, marking a major milestone in Uganda’s ongoing digital transformation journey.
Speaking during the launch panel discussion, Steven Kirenga, General Manager Product, Business Development & Customer Experience at Centenary Bank through its technology arm Centenary Technology Services, said Gonza Pay was developed to make financial inclusion more meaningful and practical for everyday Ugandans.
He emphasized that while many people already have access to digital financial services, the key challenge is ensuring they can fully use these tools to improve their livelihoods.
“We are saying that inclusion must be meaningful. It should go beyond depositing and withdrawing money to helping people save, transact, grow their businesses, and access opportunities,” he said.
Gonza Pay has been designed to respond to real customer needs based on Centenary Bank’s long experience serving Ugandans for over 40 years. The platform brings together several everyday financial services in one place, including:
– Money transfers and payments
– Savings and wallet management
– Bill payments
– Merchant and business transactions
The aim is to make digital banking simpler, faster, and more accessible, especially for small businesses and individuals who rely heavily on mobile financial services.
Uganda continues to expand its digital financial ecosystem, and innovations like Gonza Pay are expected to play an important role in reducing cash dependency and improving access to formal financial services.
By simplifying transactions and expanding access, the platform is expected to support financial inclusion, boost small business growth, and strengthen participation in the digital economy.
The launch of Gonza Pay by Centenary Bank reflects a growing shift in Uganda’s banking sector toward practical, customer-focused digital solutions. With its emphasis on simplicity and meaningful access, the platform is positioned to help bridge the gap between financial access and real economic empowerment.
