Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) opposition party is set to hold her Presidential candidate elections at a national Delegates Conference scheduled for May/June 2020.

While addressing the party’s weekly press briefing on Monday, the Party Spokesperson, Ibrahim Semujju Nganda said that the party’s Electoral Commission will after thorough preparations announce the date and venue for nominations.

Semujju said that in accordance with the party Constitution, the FDC Electoral Commission will also publish the qualifications for one to qualify as a candidate.

The four time party presidential flag bearer, Dr. Kizza Besigye is expected to pick nominations since he has on several times revealed that he would stand for presidency come 2021.

Semujju said that the nominations exercise will be preceded with internal re-organization involving replacing leaders who either have died, left the party or in the case of local branches changed residence. We are currently engaged with this refill exercise in all districts of Uganda.

The party mouthpiece said that this exercise has been interrupted by Police who have continued to conduct themselves in many instances as a militia of the ruling party.

“We will not tire in reminding senior Police officers of their statutory obligation not to engage in partisan politics. On Thursday, January 30th for example, Police teargased and dispersed an FDC Buikwe district conference at a place called Naminya in Njeru Municipality near Jinja,” Semujju said.

Semujju said that during the event, the DPC Njeru stormed Royal Paradise, a purely enclosed conference facility at Naminya, ordered the meeting to disperse in two minutes.

“The delegates walked out of the hall but were teargassed as they lined up to pick their lunch. This was a purely internal FDC party branches building meeting and organized in an enclosed place,” Semujju narrated.

“It is not only FDC that is being interrupted. We saw a senior Police officer storming a thanks giving mass for Hon. Nsamba Oshabe’s father in Kassanda and ordering people to leave or else he was going to use a gun. He was terrified of Hon. Bobi Wine,” He added.
