Muhammed Nyombi, the Mbarara Central Market Chairperson says the toilets are outside which puts lives of those that will sleep in the market at risk of contracting more diseases.

Mbarara Central Market has temporally been closed by the District Task Force after the vendors failed to maintain the four-meter distance.

The District Task Force led by the Resident District Commissioner Lt. Col. James Mwesigye, closed the market on Tuesday.

The 4-meter distancing at food market was announced by President Museveni as one of the directives to prevent further spread of coronavirus.

Mwesigye says that vendors were given ample time to organize and put in place the requirements in vain.

Abedi Juma, chairperson meat traders, says that the market shouldn’t have been closed because most of the perishable foods will rot.

Allen Najuna a vendor, says that they can’t sleep in the market due to lack of toilets.

Muhammed Nyombi, the Mbarara Central Market Chairperson says the task force should allow the vendors to work in shifts rather than close the market.
