As Uganda continues to embrace digital transformation, innovation in remittance services is proving to be a powerful driver of financial inclusion and economic growth. Speaking on UBC TV ahead of the 8th Annual Bankers Conference, Ms. Brenda Mpoora, the Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) Digital Financial Services (DFS) Committee who also doubles as the Head of Fintech at PostBank Uganda, highlighted the vital role that technology is playing in improving access to remittances across the country.

Ms. Mpoora spotlighted Wendi Wallet which is a game-changing digital platform that allows Ugandans to receive money from anywhere in the world—whether they live in cities or rural areas.

“Through Wendi Wallet, we’re not just facilitating money transfers,” she said. “We’re building financial resilience by encouraging users to save and earn competitive interest on their wallet balances.”

Important to note is that remittances are increasingly essential to many Ugandan households, supporting daily needs and small businesses. In 2023 alone, Uganda received an estimated \$1.4 billion in remittances. This clearly shows the power of the diaspora in national development.

Ms. Mpoora furthermore urged Ugandans living abroad to make use of modern technologies like Wendi, which make sending money home cheaper, safer, and more convenient. Additionally, she also noted how innovations such as blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming the financial landscape—offering faster transactions, fraud detection, and valuable insights that help shape better financial services.

As digital finance continues to evolve, platforms like Wendi Wallet are unlocking new opportunities for inclusive growth and ensuring that no Ugandan is left behind.
