MTN MoMo has today partnered with dfcu Bank and Letshego Uganda to unveil the new MoMo Agent Loans Marketplace, launched at Protea Hotel in Kampala. The initiative is designed to boost liquidity for mobile money agents and strengthen their ability to serve customers reliably.

Speaking at the launch, MTN MoMo Uganda Managing Director Richard Yego emphasized the central role agents play in the mobile money ecosystem.

“MTN MoMo agents are the heart of our business as MTN MoMo Uganda, and so today together with dfcu and Letshego Uganda we are proud to launch the MoMo Agent Loans Marketplace. This will enable them run their operations smoothly,” Yego said.

The partnership aims to expand access to quick, flexible and affordable credit for agents, reinforcing the financial infrastructure that supports millions of mobile money users. dfcu Bank, Letshego and MTN MoMo noted that the solution aligns with Uganda’s broader economic agenda.

“dfcu, Letshego Uganda, MoMo, and MoMo are taking a bold step to support the monetization of our economy, providing accessible, timely, and relevant credit solutions that help people do business. This aligns with the government’s vision for tenfold economic growth over the next 15 years. This is our contribution — a meaningful step toward that national ambition,” the partners stated.

One of the key innovations launched is the Weekend Agent Loan, offering between UGX 1 million and UGX 5 million, specifically tailored for weekends — the busiest time for mobile money activity. The facility provides agents with instant working capital at moments when liquidity is often stretched.

“This is not just a loan. It is a lifeline. It is empowerment. It is the practical support that our agents deserve,” the partners added.

MTN MoMo Uganda Chief Product Officer Jamima Kariuki highlighted the everyday value agents bring to the community.

“Agents, you’re the reason customers trust mobile money. You handle deposits, withdrawals, educate users, and keep communities connected. These loans are here to strengthen your liquidity so you never turn a customer away.”

With the MoMo Agent Loans Marketplace, the three institutions aim to unlock more opportunities for micro-entrepreneurs, strengthen financial inclusion, and support Uganda’s push toward a more digitized and empowered economy.
