Centenary Bank has donated 30 waste bins to Makerere University in a move aimed at promoting proper waste management and environmental cleanliness at the institution. The official handover ceremony took place this morning at the University Main Building and was led by the bank’s Makerere Branch team under the leadership of Branch Manager Mr Sunday Julius.
Speaking during the handover, Mr Sunday said the donation is part of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the communities where it operates and strengthening partnerships with institutions such as Makerere University.
“We are proud to support initiatives that improve the environment and positively impact the communities around us. Makerere University remains one of our valued partners in development, and we appreciate the warm relationship we continue to share,” he said. Mr Sunday also thanked the university leadership, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, for the continued partnership and warm reception accorded to the Centenary Bank team. Receiving the donation on behalf of the university, Barnabas Nawangwe welcomed the contribution and described it as an important step towards improving sanitation and environmental conservation within the campus.
“As one of our partners in development, we want to thank you very much for this very big push and donation, which is going to help us improve the environment for everybody,” Professor Nawangwe said.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the donation builds on the bank’s previous support to the university’s halls of residence. He added that the newly donated bins, which will mainly serve public areas, will help students begin separating plastic waste from biodegradable waste.
According to university officials, the initiative is expected to promote cleanliness across campus while also encouraging students and staff to embrace responsible waste disposal practices. The partnership between Centenary Bank and Makerere University continues to reflect a shared commitment towards community development, environmental sustainability, and supporting initiatives that create a better learning environment for students.
