At the heart of the Stanbic National Schools Championship Season 11 bootcamp, former Vision Group CEO and business strategist Robert Kabushenga delivered a clear message to both students and teachers: leadership begins with purpose, direction and disciplined execution.

More than 400 students from secondary and vocational schools across Uganda have gathered for the annual bootcamp, a flagship initiative under the Stanbic Bank Uganda National Schools Championship. The programme is designed to equip young people with entrepreneurial, leadership and problem-solving skills beyond the classroom.

Ahead of the official activities, Kabushenga engaged patron teachers in a focused strategy session that aligned them on mentorship expectations, structured thinking and their role in guiding students throughout the intensive week-long programme.

The bootcamp then opened with an “Ikigai” session, a concept centred on helping participants identify purpose, passion, strengths and opportunity. The exercise encouraged students to reflect on where their natural abilities intersect with the needs of society and the future world of work.

“Leadership isn’t about position; it’s about knowing where you’re going and guiding others there,” Kabushenga told participants during the session.

“Without a defined strategy, even the best intentions fall short,” he added, emphasising the importance of clarity, consistency and long-term thinking in leadership.

Kabushenga’s presence set the tone for a boot camp increasingly positioning itself as more than just a competition. Organisers say the championship is evolving into a national talent and innovation pipeline that nurtures future entrepreneurs, creators and change-makers.

This year’s edition has attracted students from different regions of Uganda, bringing together diverse experiences, ideas and ambitions under one platform. Throughout the week, participants will engage in mentorship sessions, team-building exercises, innovation challenges and practical business learning experiences.

Under the hashtag #StanbicUGChampions, the bootcamp is already generating strong engagement online, with many praising the programme for exposing young Ugandans to leadership and entrepreneurial thinking at an early stage. For many students arriving at the camp, the week represents more than competition it is an opportunity to discover purpose, build confidence and shape future ambitions.
